Press Release Cartier is the Star of the Show.
Henry Aldridge and Son’s first antique and collectables sale of the summer season on Saturday August 13th lived up to its pre sale expectations. The auctioneers were delighted with the turnout with several hundred people registering to bid and interest in the lots from as far afield as Brisbane, Australia. The auction itself offered literally something for every taste with over 800 lots on show. The highest price of the day was for a silver gilt and diamond Cartier cigarette case and lighter which sold for over £8000 to a bidder in the room against interest from several collectors on the telephone. The owner a lady from Chippenham was delighted with the interest shown in the piece, how the auctioneers marketed it and of course the eventual sale price. Other notable results were for an oil on board of a rustic scene by Victorian artist Blandford Fletcher which made over £1400 and £1200 for a 9ct gold Bracelet. There were several Chinese and Japanese items consigned for auction with all of them selling on or above estimate. These were led by a late 18th century Famille Rose charger £1100, two 19th century brass incense burners £600 and a pair of Japanese ivory figures £850. Henry Aldridge’s next auction of Antiques and Collectables is scheduled for September 17th with over 400 items of Collectables and Antiques already consigned it promises to be a fascinating affair.
