With reference to your letter of the 29th of May regarding the effects found on the body of your husband, Mr.Thomas Theobald, we sent a copy of same to our New York friends, and they write that all the effects found on the body are being sent to us by the S.S. Olympic, due here this week end.
These are as follows:-
Silver watch and chain,
Gold ring marked "C.T."
Purse with 4 shillings.
Our New York friends advise us that the clothing is not in a fit condition to be returned, but that all clothing brought into Halifax by the "Mackay-Bennett" was very thoroughly searched, the lining being torn out and the pockets ripped open in order to make sure of the recovery of money or valuables which might have been kept in safety pockets.
We will take care that the effects are sent to you as soon as received by us, but shall have to ask you to sign the enclosed four forms of indemnity and receipt, in the presence of a witness, which please return to us when signed, and oblige.
